The main goal of our project is to educate our viewers about the Chicano Art Movement that took place in the late 1960's and 70's as well as Mexican muralists during the Mexican Revolution of the early 1900's .  This website discusses the background of the Chicano art movement and how it transpired from the Chicano Civil Rights Movement.  The sociopolitical aspects that arose from this movement, the types of art that mural painters focused on, and the symbolism portrayed within the images, portrays the history of the Chicano art movement.  We focused on Chicano poster art and the movement from which it emerged because they are important models for transformative cultural and political work. Mexican muralism and poster art play an important theme throughout our project.  We focused on three famous painters: Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros who painted on the walls of public buildings all over the communities of Mexico which created one of the most powerful and significant achievements in public art during the twentieth century. It is important to take note that Rivera, Siqueiros, and Orozco are NOT Chicano artists, they were Mexican muralists of the Mexican Revolution who were influential to the Chicano art movement.  We found these three artists to be the most prominent because they combined their knowledge of politics and art, and in turn, built a new national identity.  Our website provides the biographies of these three artists and their artistic styles which also portrays the political activism in which they participated in.
