Long-Term Care Plan

The University of Michigan offers an optional group long-term care insurance plan underwritten by John Hancock Life Insurance Company.

Long-term care insurance offers important optional coverage that is generally not available under your medical and long-term disability benefits or fully covered through Medicare or Medicaid. It can help provide protection against the high costs of long-term care that can result from the effects of aging, illness, or a serious accident. It can help you manage the expenses associated with care received in your home, an alternate care facility, or a nursing home.

Faculty, Staff and Retirees
Eligible faculty, staff, and retirees and survivors may apply for coverage. They must provide proof of good health and be accepted for coverage by John Hancock.

Eligible Family Members
Eligible family members of actively-at-work faculty and staff can also apply for coverage and they must provide proof of good health before they are accepted for coverage. Spouses, other qualified adults, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, siblings, spouses of siblings, adult children and spouses of adult children are eligible to apply.
