GradCare is administered by BCN Service Company and is available only to U-M graduate students and their eligible dependents.
Level 1
When on campus, see your primary care physician (PCP) for care or referral to a specialist.
Level 2
When on off-site academic study or other field placement registered with BCN, visit
any non-network doctor for medically necessary care (obtain prior authorization from BCN). Before you leave, complete the Off-Site Registration form and return it to BCN.
Level 3
When traveling or on school break, obtain medically necessary medical care from
any non-network provider (obtain prior authorization from BCN). Your out-of-pocket
expenses for Level 3 are higher than Levels 1 and 2.
For All Levels
In a life-threatening emergency, visit any hospital and notify BCN as soon
as possible, preferably within 48 hours. Elective hospitalizations and substance
abuse care are not covered unless provided by GradCare network providers or approved
by BCN in view of special circumstances.
