GradCare Medical Plan

GradCare is administered by BCN Service Company and is available only to U-M graduate students and their eligible dependents.

Level 1
When on campus, see your primary care physician (PCP) for care or referral to a specialist.

Level 2
When on off-site academic study or other field placement registered with BCN, visit any non-network doctor for medically necessary care (obtain prior authorization from BCN). Before you leave, complete the Off-Site Registration form and return it to BCN.

Level 3
When traveling or on school break, obtain medically necessary medical care from any non-network provider (obtain prior authorization from BCN). Your out-of-pocket expenses for Level 3 are higher than Levels 1 and 2.

For All Levels
In a life-threatening emergency, visit any hospital and notify BCN as soon as possible, preferably within 48 hours. Elective hospitalizations and substance abuse care are not covered unless provided by GradCare network providers or approved by BCN in view of special circumstances.

Continuation of Insurance for Non-employed GradCare Members
Continuation of medical insurance is available to non-employed GradCare members who are no longer eligible for coverage through the University of Michigan.  You may continue coverage for yourself and your eligible dependents through the OneBlue plan, administered by Blue Care Service Company of BCN.  Pre-existing condition clauses are waived for any GradCare members selecting a Blues product, as long as the enrollment occurs within the later of 30 days of your GradCare coverage end date or the date of notification.
