Research Site Facilities

Modern facilities and equipment are available through the Division and laboratories of associated faculty who are in the medical sciences and in departments such as Chemistry and Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry. Equipment for structural studies includes an X-ray area detector system, 400-MHz solid-state, 500- and 600-MHz solution NMR spectrometers, an energy-filtered cryotransmission electron microscope, advanced workstations for molecular modeling, and facilities for molecular biology and protein purification. Modern spectroscopic methods are well represented, with apparatus for fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy; fluorescence photobleaching, correlation, and total internal reflection techniques; FT-IR, Raman, and FT-Raman spectroscopy; and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Laboratories specializing in electron spin resonance are equipped with modern commercial spectrometers and custom-built instruments (ELDOR and ENDOR) for double resonance experiments.

Rapid reaction, stopped-flow, and other intruments and techniques are available in laboratories of associated faculty members. State of the art in-house computer facilities are provided by DEC, Sun, Silicon Graphics, and other work stations. An extensive Ethernet network interconnects all department computers and provides links to the University mainframe, other department networks, and the national networks.
