confidentiality

Health information you or your treatment professionals provide to Work~Connections remains confidential. Maintaining appropriate confidentiality of health information is a fundamental principle within the program. Your health information will be released only in the following circumstances:

  • With written authorization from you;
  • When a strict need to know is established, i.e. for health/safety reasons, or to make employment status decisions;
  • When your or your co-workers’ safety may be at risk; or
  • To comply with the Workers‘ Compensation law.

The University recognizes that you may voluntarily choose at any time to discuss a medical situation with your supervisor or co-workers. This is a personal choice which, in many cases, may lead to a great deal of support and encouragement.

Your health information belongs to you, and the University will guard it appropriately. This means that:

  • Medical information will be kept secure, private, and out of public view.
  • Computer records will be protected.
  • Work~Connections staff will not discuss any medical issues in public areas.
