During installation, most UM-GIS software packages will create a shortcut on the desktop or in the Start Menu -- Programs folder. Some common software problems are listed below by package.ArcGIS Floating (ArcMap, ArcCatalog)
ArcGIS Floating requires a network connection to the campus license manager. To set or modify your computer's ESRI license manager, please click here.
ArcGIS Single Use (ArcMap, ArcCatalog)
At the end of the installation, ArcGIS should prompt you to register ArcView/ArcEditor and any extensions. UM affiliates should email gis.help for these codes. If you cancelled out of the registration, you will need to use the ESRI Desktop Administrator to re-open the registration window before you will be able to use ArcGIS. Go to Start Menu -- Programs -- ArcGIS -- Desktop Administrator. On the left, select the folder "Register Single Use and Extensions". Click on the "Register Now..." button. For the Registration Method, be sure to use the "Register now using the Internet (Recommended)" option, which is the default.
ArcView GIS
The first time you run ArcView GIS after installation or upgrade, you will be required to register the following information:
Name: <your name>
Organization: University of Michigan
Registration code: <UM affiliates should email gis.help for this code>
CSCAR currently offers ESRI-Authorized training workshops in ArcView GIS. See the CSCAR Workshops page for more information.
Terraseer (Clusterseer, Boundaryseer, and Spacestat)
The first time you run a Terraseer product, you will be asked for a registration code. The codes are saved as text files in each application's folder, under the Start Menu -- Programs -- Terraseer. Just open the text files and copy/paste the appropriate code into the registration window.
Terraseer STIS requires users with University email accounts to send the registration request with the STIS user codes to umichlic@terraseer.com. The STIS user codes may be found in the Manual Registration window when STIS is run.
