This two day session will provide
a complete introduction to the principles of manipulating and displaying spatial data with ArcGIS,
a leading software package for the input, processing, integration, and
presentation of geospatial data. The University of Michigan holds a site
license for this software suite, offering it free to all faculty, staff and
students on-campus. The workshop is designed for anyone interested in research
using spatial data and GIS techniques.
Using ArcGIS addresses the following topics:
- Installing the software.
- Getting data into ArcGIS.
- Displaying layers.
- Working
with tables.
- Labeling features.
- Querying layers.
- Geoprocessing.
- Spatial analysis -- buffering and overlays.
- Map projections.
- Spatial data types -- vector and raster.
- Geodatabases.
- Creating and editing geodata and attributes.
- Making and printing maps.
Participants who complete Using ArcGIS will receive
a certificate of completion from UM-CSCAR.

Danielle
Gwinn is currently a GIS Consultant at CSCAR, assisting researchers across
campus and helping to coordinate the university-wide activities in Spatial Analysis and GIS.
Audience:
Any interested researcher or scholar.
Prerequisite:
Familiarity with the use of Windows operating systems.
