Combining GIS Maps with other Maps

Maps from many sources: the next set of maps combines maps from the following sources

A relief map is placed under the Atlas/MOH map of the previous slide to generate the next slide. This effect is achieved using the “raster underlay” capability of Atlas GIS. To illustrate how the map looks in Atlas, the entire Atlas screen is shown in the next slide.

Raster images can be used as an underlay to a map, as on the previous slide; they can also be used alone to map information that might otherwise take time to map. The following slide shows a map of aquifer location adjacent to the Mediterranean. Because it lies on an Atlas map (invisibly), one can also determine latitude and longitude on the underlay, even though it did not originally have lat/long coordinates. Again, the entire Atlas screen is shown; note the lat/long coordinates in the lower right-hand corner.
