The Project:

This website was constructed as part of a final assignment for a Senior Seminar at the University of Michigan entitled Early Modern Literature of Travel. The seminar was taught by Professor David Porter. Readings by Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, Jonathan Swift and Daniel Defoe provided inspiration for the construction of this Online Home Remedy Manual. This page was completed on April 20, 2001.

Note: This Guide provides information that was current during the 1700's, please consult with your physician before attempting to try any of these remedies at home. The authors will not be held responsible for any actions on the part of the readers to perform these treatments (e.g. if you buy opium, which is illegal, do not attempt to blame it on us) or any sicknesses that arise from attempting to use the recipes listed in this catalogue. Thank you.

The Authors:

Jon A. Bakos is responsible for contacting Dr. Janos and gathering his medical knowledge for the Guide to All Things Conjugal. He was also the inspiration for writing this guide from the perspective of 18th century authors.

Antoinette S. Gilbert directed the construction of Mind Medicine and the basic site layout.

Tracy L. Heck undertook the task of compiling all the information on Common Concerns.

Stacy J. Tiderington successfully pulled together information from our readings this semester to connect the themes of the class with the topic of our site in Famous Faces. She enjoys sandwiches.
