Hypochondria

Causes:

Hypochondria is a disease that John Wesley believes to be the result of "irreligion" (22). It is a conviction on the part of the patient that he is infected with every possible ailment and disorder that he can attribute to himself.

Recipe:

The solution for success at curing this disorder is hellebore, "pour twelve ounces of rectified spirits of wine on four ounces of roots of black hellebore, and let it stand in a warm place twenty-four hours. Pour it off and take from thirty to forty drops in any liquid, fasting" (23).
