Sighing


Causes:

Melancholic humours. Results in audible exhalation of air.

Recipe:

 

Similar to grief, sighing is best remedied by "that noble and famous confection Alkermes, made by the Arabians, containing the grains of scarlet oak" (42).

Note: You will probably notice that this is also the recommended cure for vain imaginations and sorrow without cause. This preparation has multipurposes because it is known to purge melancholy humors, which cause those various ailments.
