Chains

Uses:

This method should be reserved for the violent and otherwise disruptive people with mental illnesses.

Method:

Purchase strong chains and locks. Wrap securely around the patient. Leave the patient bound until they act sane. Note: Sometimes this is effective with disobedient children, although weaker chains are required.

Walter Mapes, chaplian to Henry II, requested this treatment after he fell ill while living in Gloucestershire (8). "Sick men often require what is foolish or prejudicial," he said with reference to his own wavering sanity, "But should it ever so happen [that I lose my mind] bind me with chains and fetters as a lunatic who has lost his wits, and keep me in close custody until I repent and recover my senses" (9).

Side Effects:

Bruises, broken bones. Note: If the lunatic escapes from the chains, be prepared to flee for your life.
