Cupping

Uses:

This treatment is for insanity caused by congestion of the blood. Similar to Blood-Letting, this method is effective for removing offending humours.

Method:

Dry Cupping: Shave an area on the patient where the congested blood is suspected to reside. May requre several treatments to find the appropriate location. Heat a glass cup by placing it over an open flame. Place the cup, mouth down, on the shaved area of the patient. As the air in the glass cools, it will draw blood away from the internal parts of the patient (12).

Wet Cupping: Same as dry cupping, only the glass is heated by placing it in boiling water. Also, repeat the procedure until the skin of the patient scars to allow excess blood to be released. If necessary, puncture the skin with a sharp object.

Side Effects:

Burns, blisters, loss of skin, permanent scars, fear of heat. Note: May be painful to conscious patients.
