Wilkommen! Two things are involved in the University Organization known as German Club: the German language and unbridled fun. We are a social organization dedicated to making it fun to learn German. Acts of conviviality and social interaction are at the heart of our extracurricular program because we believe that the best way to learn about the German culture and language is to engage personally with those who have had experience with both. Who are these people?
At the core of German Club is a group of students with diverse backgrounds, creative minds and arousing sense of humor. These students work symbiotically with the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures and the staff at the Max Kade Residential Learning Community to create a vibrant atmosphere of learning outside the classroom. Some programs include a student Coffee Hour, Stammtisch, weekly meetings, and watching German movies. More info on these activities coming soon, or you can e-mail Jacob, our president. Who does things like this?Participation is dominated by, but not limited to university students. Graduate students, alumni, and some who have joined the workforce, including a pool of native Germans working locally for Firms like Bosch and Frauenhoffer, attend some of our events, particularly Stammtisch. Such events serve as excellent opportunities for members to expand their social and business networks while broadening their perspective on what it means to be German (or Swiss or Austrian) and evermore, European. Of course, we speak German whenever we can. What are they doing? What do we do? Lovers don't so often ask each other that. Instead, they do things to remember what brought them together. It's hard not to fall in love with a language and a people if you are one, human and two, with the right people. We leave the former to you, and guarantee the latter. The common ground holding us together is anything from curiosity about, to an obsession with, an amazing language and culture. Generally, the things we do are aimed at finding that element and exploring it to the fullest on Ann Arbor evenings and afternoons. There is no telling what we will do; it's different every time, but there will be food, drinks and fun and we guarantee you will learn something. Here is the latest news/info on our upcoming meetings. Well, now that you know a little bit about the German Club, please, explore our site and to find out more about us! If you are interested in joining, check out the news page to see where we are meeting next, and show up! Or, email Jacob at jjgriff@umich.edu if you need any other information. |
