| On December 1-2, 2001, the Center for Afroamerican and African Studies presented The Archaeology of the African Diaspora: Trends and Perspectives. Organized by Dr. Augustin F.C. Holl, the conference aimed to "open discussions on some of the recent development in the archaeology of the Atlantic African Diaspora." Scholars from various disciplines presented on topics ranging from iron working in Togo to the African Burial Grounds in New York. Dr. Holl remarks, "the group of invited scholars are all active researchers in their fields. [This conference was] probably the first serious attempt to bring together in such a forum archaeologists, bio-anthropologists and historians to share their discoveries and set the growth for future research on the Atlantic African Diaspora." The conference was made possible with a generous donation by the Office of the Dean, LS&A/College of Literature Science, and the Arts. Special thanks to Mr. Mady Kouyate for his wonderful musical performance at the reception. |
