Dr. Jörg Waltje
Director
Dr. Jörg Waltje was the Language Technology Coordinator for a five-university Mellon Foundation project helping faculty and information technology personnel develop multimedia, interactive software for foreign language teaching and assessment before he moved on to become an Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Director of the Language Resource Center at Ohio University, Athens, Since August 2008 he is the LRC Director at the University of Michigan. He received his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Colorado for his dissertation on “Vampires, Genre, and the Compulsion to Repeat.” His literary research still focuses on popular culture and the theme of horror in fiction and film, but his academic interests have more and more branched out into the field of instructional technology and CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning). Ariana E. Bostian-Kentes
Marketing Assistant Associate
National and International Sales
Ariana is an Ann Arbor native who matriculated at the University of Michigan after graduating from Huron High School. She received her BA in Program in the Environment in 2005 after completing an environmental field study in New Zealand. She studied both French and Modern Greek during her undergraduate career and maintains a keen interest in foreign languages and cultures. Ariana acts as the program assistant for the LRC, executes the LRC’s marketing plans, and represents the LRC at various trade shows and UofM events. She also manages and administers national and international sales of the LRC’s Foreign Language Affiliated Course Services (FLACS) materials.
Her other interests include non-fiction books, documentary films, participating in triathlons, watching Michigan football, and playing rugby with the Ann Arbor Women’s Rugby Football Club!

Phillip J. Cameron
Instructional Learning Intermediate
Phillip is a certified audio engineer and will graduate in the winter of 2008 with an associate’s of science technical writing degree. Phillip has been steadily building his pedagogic and technical skill set at the Language Resource Center for the past seven years, having started in July of 2000. Now, he coordinates the digitization, duplication, creation and distribution of audio material, for use by faculty and students. Phillip works closely with language coordinators and other LRC Staff to deliver all kinds audio material. He likes blogs, futurism, audio engineering, and debunking the myths of web 2.0.

Rob P. DeMilner
Instructional Learning Senior
Rob has a degree Television and Film from Eastern Michigan University. He
worked as a Documentary Cameraman/Editor for Public Television in Detroit
for several years and as an Advertising Producer in Southfield. He has produced
four independent Documentaries that have aired on Public television, and
in numerous film festivals.
Rob oversees the Video Studio here at the Language Resource Center. Besides
studio video productions, he also can be seen around campus with his camera
shooting video for numerous projects, of which he edits there in the LRC
studio. He is the tallest member of the LRC staff.

Julie C. Evershed
Information Resources Associate Supervisor
Julie Evershed joined the staff in the middle of September 1998. Julie received her Masters degree in Information and Library Science in December 1997 from the University of Michigan School of Information. She received her BA in French Languages and Literatures from UofM and holds a Certificate of Political Studies in International Relations from the University of Aix-Marseille. She has also had coursework in Turkish and Spanish. Julie oversees the entire LRC collection (videos, audio, books, software, equipment, etc.) and manages all circulation and reservation issues. Her areas of expertise and specialization are information and library science, database management, and web development. Her areas of professional interest are information management and systems implementation.

Cyndy R. Kayden
Accounting Clerk Senior
Cyndy joined the LRC staff in late September 2007. A Canton native, she received her B.A. in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University in June 2003, majoring in Marketing and Finance. Prior to joining the LRC, Cyndy spent 13 years working for Trinity Health, with the most recent 8 years being at Care Choices HMO in the Financial Reporting & Analysis Department. Her responsibilities include handling the financial operations and accounting functions related to the LRC. Professional interests include process improvement and finding alternative uses for current financial analysis and data.

Vince E. Lee
Information Resources Assistant Senior
Vince joined the staff at the LRC in May of 2006. Prior to joining the LRC, Vince worked at the Buhr Shelving Facility for the past 8 years processing and shelving various materials from the campus libraries of UofM. He received his Masters degree in Information and Library Science from Wayne State University in August of 2004 and his BA in Political Science from UofM in 1993.
Vince coordinates the LRC equipment loan and facilities reservation services, as well as the reservation services specific to the video collection for faculty and instructors. His interests include working with rare, fragile, and unique materials. He is currently pursuing a certificate in archival administration and management from Wayne State University.

Ann L. Levenick
Instructional Learning Intermediate
Ann Levenick earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Michigan,
and spent 3 years doing television production work in New York City before
returning to her hometown of Ann Arbor and joining the UofM Dental School
TV staff in 1976. While at the Dental School she studied electronics and
soon moved to the U-M Television Center as a broadcast engineer. From there
she came to the LRC where she has overseen satellite downlinks, and taken
care of electronic equipment for 20 years. In her years at the LRC she's
been responsible for the LRC's first equipment loan service, first webpage,
and first computer network.

Philomena A. Meechan
Instructional Learning Lead
Philomena has been at the University of Michigan for the past 14 years, nine of which have been in the Language Resource Center. She has her Masters degree in Spanish Linguistics from UofM and has acquired an extraordinary amount of experience with computer assisted language learning and teaching with technology. Philomena has been a central team-member on numerous projects. These projects include: Chinese listening comprehension exercises using Problem Set Framework; German history texts and exercises using Storyspace; a French multimedia reader with reading strategies using Problem Set Framework and Annotext; Language and Discrimination texts using Voyager Expanded Book Toolkit; and Lazarillo, a multimedia application for a 16th century Spanish novella, using SuperCard. She is currently involved in projects for Arabic, ESL, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog. Her areas of professional interest are Spanish linguistics, materials development, and foreign language instructional technology.

John H. Stewart
Information Services Consultant
John (pronounced the Dutch way: Jan) has been managing the computing facilities
and overseeing deployment of instructional computing in the LRC since 1997.
He came to the LRC from the Center for Japanese Studies, bringing his expertise
in Non-Roman fonts and scripts to the Centerís pool of talent.
Jan handles all reservations for class use of the computers in the Center
and works closely with faculty on using software in their classes.
We also must warn everyone that Jan is a passionate promoter of the Dvorak
keyboard and will switch keyboards on your computer in the blink of an eye!
