Listserv Options for the U-M Community

In anticipation of a planned retirement, effective 3/20/13, ITS no longer accepts requests for new listserv lists using Lyris software. The ITS Listserv Service is currently scheduled for retirement on June 21, 2013.

Key Dates for Retirement of ITS Listserv Service

• March 2013: ITS no longer requests for new Lyris istserv lists.
• Mid April: List owners notified via email that the ITS Listserv Service will be turned off June 21. Owners of inactive lists notified that those lists will be deleted May 30.
• Late April: Email reminder of the need to transition lists sent to owners of active lists.
• May 30: Inactive lists (Those with no postings in 2012 or 2013) and lists with no owners deleted.
• May 6-June 10: Weekly reminders to owners of active lists.
• June 17: Final notice to owners of active lists.
• June 21: ITS Listserv Service (Lyris) turned off.

Get a List of Your List Members

To transition a listserv list to another service, you will need a list of your list members. See How to Get a Member List for Your Listserver List for instructions.

Email List Options

Options for email lists and other collaboration tools include these:

• MCommunity groups
• M+Google collaboration tools
• CTools
• Vendor products. Some vendor products used by U-M units include Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, Dundee Internet Services, Inc. (offers Lyris listservs), and Real Magnet.
• Google Groups (outside of M+Google; postings will have ads). See Google Groups Help.

Classlists

Instructors on the Ann Arbor campus can create course groups in the MCommunity Directory based on course information from Wolverine Access. For details and instructions, see Course Groups in MCommunity and Google (S4390)
