What is Women's Health and Fitness Day?

A group of medical students, faculty, and staff at the University of Michigan Medical School organizes Women's Health and Fitness Day, which will be held in January. This day is focused on educating the community -- women and men of all ages -- about various aspects of women's health. Each attendee will be able to attend workshops led by U of M health professionals who are experts in their respective fields. The day is free for all participants and includes a complimentary breakfast and lunch. This day is sure to be educational, exciting, and fun-filled for all who come!

Why are we planning it?

Our goal for Women's Health and Fitness Day is to impact Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and surrounding communities. For all women, health and fitness are important aspects both of medicine and of living a long and happy life. Women often interact with their doctors only when they are sick; we would like to change this. We are providing a forum for health care professionals to reach out to the community and address preventative health issues and how to live a healthy life. There is an incredible wealth of resources and knowledge at the U of M Medical Center (ranked #10 by the US News and World Report in 2008) that needs to be shared with our community. In addition, there is a lot to be learned from our community. We hope that Women's Health and Fitness Day will bring women together from all aspects of our community to learn from each other.

What are our goals?

  • To educate the community about specific health issues facing women and the role of health and fitness throughout women's lives.
  • To provide an opportunity for women and girls in the community to interact with and learn from experts in the specific fields.
  • To provide an opportunity for medical students to interact with and learn from the community, and to help educate their community about important health issues.
