Brekan Kohlitz |
Hoboken, N.J. -
Coming off the University of
Michigan men's lacrosse team's first National Championship win just over
a week ago, senior captain and faceoff specialist Brekan Kohlitz
(St. Claire Shores, Mich./Notre Dame Harper Woods) was drafted by
the Washington Bayhawks with the 44th pick, in the fifth
round of the Major League Lacrosse collegiate draft last night. Kohlitz
became the first player from the MCLA (Men's Collegiate Lacrosse
Association) ever to be drafted into MLL.
Kohlitz is coming off a highly
successful senior season where he earned first-team All-American honors
for winning over 70% of his faceoffs (270-380) while scooping up a
team-high 144 groundballs. Kohlitz finished his four-year career as the
Wolverines' all-time leader in faceoffs (978), faceoff wins (695), and
groundballs (406). He finished his tenure with the Maize and Blue in
solid fashion, tying a career high with 21 faceoff wins in the MCLA
Championship Game win over Chapman on May 17. Kohlitz also eclipsed his
career point total in his final campaign, notching four goals and four
assists after only recording one goal and one assist in his first three
years for U-M.
The Washington Bayhawks are
coming off a 5-7 season in 2007 and are 1-1 so far in the 2008 campaign,
coming off a win in their home-opener last weekend vs. Denver.
