My research interests lie in the application of traditional
engineering techniques to studying molecular biological systems. I am broadly interested understanding the role mechanics plays in the interactions between DNA and DNA binding proteins. I am currently participating in a project that uses a magnetic trapping system to monitor and control the torsional configuration of DNA in order to examine in detail the mechanical properties of double-stranded DNA. I am especially interested in pursuing interdisciplinary approaches in my research, leveraging the technical nature of my education in mechanical engineering to study the nanoscale behaviors of biological and biochemical systems that could not be fully characterized using conventional techniques.
