a statement of purpose and any additional supporting documentation. Applications should be submitted to the Graduate Student Services Office
located at 4113 Thayer Academic Building by the appropriate deadline.

Fellowship and scholarship awards come from a variety of sources and range from partial tuition
scholarships to full fellowships providing stipends of up to $16,135 per

Graduate Student Instructor
A
Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) is a salaried teaching appointment. A
GSI generally conducts two or four discussion sections weekly in one
of the introductory courses, or teaches language courses. Primary
responsibilities include instructing, reading and grading papers,
holding office hours and tutoring. GSI's with
at least a quarter-time appointment (.25 - 10 hours per week) receive
a complete tuition waiver with staff benefits. Appointments at a lower
rate receive partial tuition waivers. The Department has a limited number of GSI positions each fall and winter semester. To be considered for a GSI position in the Department of Near Eastern Studies, please complete the Departmental Funding Application..
