Research Article Summary and Critique (20pts)

I will consider the following in grading this assignment:

The first part (6 pts.) should be a brief summary of about a page (in your own words) of general background, what the authors’ questions were, how they went about setting up the study, what they found, etc. The following questions may be helpful in guiding this summary.

What is the article’s theoretical basis? (Why has this study been conducted?)

What is the hypothesis?

Describe the methodology of the study. (Specify the number and nature of the participants, the design of the study, the measures used, etc.)

What were the results? (Use your own words to describe the results. Do not copy straight from the article!)
How did the author(s) explain their findings in the discussion section

The next part of this assignment (14 pts.) requires you to take an analytic eye to what the authors had done in the study. The following questions can guide your evaluation.

How effective (or ineffective) was the study in answering the questions at hand?

Discuss strengths and weaknesses of the study.

In what way might the study relate to the theories discussed in the textbook/lecture?

Was there a logical reasoning behind the way the study was designed?

Were the findings generalizable? How relevant is the study cross-culturally?

Were there important points that were left out that you think should have been given more attention?

Please photocopy the entire article and attach it to your paper.
