9/19 - Real-Life Research

In groups of 4, go over each article you brought in one at a time.
First, each student should give a brief summary of the study s/he brought in to the rest of the group by answering the questions in Part A.
Then as a group discuss Part B.

Part A

1.  Who were the participants in your study?

2.  What was the procedure in the study?

3.  What is the main finding(s) of the study?

Part B

1.  What type of study is it and how can you tell?  (descriptive, correlational, experimental)

2.  Do you think this was the best type of study to use to examine the variables of interest?  Why or why not?  (HINT-- can causality be determined, and is that an important consideration for this research question?)

3.  Are the findings of the study depicted fairly and accurately in the article?

4.  Propose a new study that could address some of the weaknesses of the present study (you can choose a different type of design if you want, or just modify the current procedure, but do something more than just changing the participant population).
