Biography: Buffy was born in 1981 to the recently divorced Hank and Joyce Summers. Until 1995, when she enrolled in Hemery High School in Los Angeles, she led a relatively normal life similar to that of your average teen. She had a number of friends, a boyfriend, and was captain of the cheerleading squad. Late one night after cheerleading practice, she was approached by an unknown man. He introduced himself as Merrick the watcher and informed her of her destiny as the slayer. He gave no reason why Buffy in particular was chosen other than the reincarnate spirit of a young vampire slayer had been manifested in her. Buffy was uncomfortable with her role as the vampire slayer but when vampires began to wreak havoc upon her community she was forced into action. A battle ensued in which Buffy's high school gym was burnt to the ground. Buffy triumphed over the vampires in the end, though her mentor, Merrick, died. After Buffy is expelled from high school, Buffy's mother decided to move to Sunnydale, California. Vampire citings again became apparent and though Buffy was reluctant to start up her slaying duties once again, she could not sit idly by and watch her new home be destroyed. Thus with the help of a new watcher, Rupert Giles, and friends, Willow, Xander, Giles, Cordelia, and Angel (her vampire boyfriend) Buffy continues to fight against the demonic forces of this universe.

Buffy Anne Summers or the Vampire Slayer?  Buffy is a particularly intriguing superheroine because she is one of the few that leads a relatively normal life. When she isn't thrusting a spear into the heart of a vampire, Buffy leads the life of your typical teen. She has a group of friends and even a boyfriend. Nor does Buffy dress like your average superheroine. She has no signature costume and, instead, assumes the dress of a modern teen. The division between Buffy's personal life and her role as a superheroine is an extremely difficult one to decipher. Although Buffy would like to lead a normal life, vampires will often single out her friends and family in order to get back at her.
