JAWS (Job Access
With Speech) (PC).
JAWS allows a visually impaired user to navigate a graphical interface
using voice output, keyboard commands, and sound cues. It combines Web
reading and browsing. It can reformat a table and interpret it "more
coherently" than other Web browsing software. It can be very complex
and not the best choice for a beginning Web surfer, unless you are of the
patient sort. If you are the patient sort, it may be the best possible
choice. There are training tapes available for both JAWS and basic Windows
concepts. These tapes provide a thorough introduction to both applications
and the opportunity to learn by doing.
