Internship Program for UM Students in the United Nations Statistics Division

The University of Michigan Initiative in Disability Studies (UMInDS) is happy to announce a summer internship at the United Nations in the Statistical Division. Interns will spend an average of two months at the United Nation supported by a fellowship of $5000.

The intern will be supervised by the head of the Social Statistics Section, and a statistician in the section will closely work with the intern. The United Nations prefers candidates with strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the capacity to make good inferences from data.

UMInDS will make the initial selection of candidates to be sent for review to the United Nations. Candidates should have taken Rackham 580: “Topics in Disability Studies” or plan to take the course after their internship at the United Nations. Information on the course is available at www.umich.edu/~uminds/rackham580W08.html.

ELIGIBILITY: Note that students who will graduate in Winter or Spring/Summer 2009 are not eligible for this internship. Commitment to the internship requires commitment to the schedule of the United Nations Internship program.

Candidates should submit a letter describing their previous experience and a C.V. Questions should be addressed to Carrie Baker, 734.647.6251, mscarrie@umich.edu. Nomination packages should be mailed or hand-delivered to Carrie Baker, UMInDS, 2015 Tisch Hall, 1003.

The deadline for applications is Friday, November 28, 2008.
