8.18.2003
For public release:
Former interim and assistant conductor of the Michigan Men's Glee Club, Jeffrey Douma was named the seventh director of the Yale
Glee Club on August 1st. Founded in 1861, only two years after the Michigan Club, the Yale Glee Club has been led by only six conductors
during its 143 year history.
"My experience as a member, assistant conductor, and finally interim conductor of the Glee Club at Michigan helped me understand
how inspiring and unforgettable the collegiate singing experience can be. The Yale Glee Club, like Michigan's, has a long and
distinguished heritage, and I am thrilled to be entrusted with its continuation. I hope that I can provide for my new students
the same kinds of thrilling experiences - musical and other - we all enjoyed at Michigan."
Dr. Douma received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and his graduate degrees from the University
of Michigan School of Music. He has previously taught at Smith College and St. Cloud State University (Minnesota) and served as
Chorusmaster and guest conductor of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Ontario.
