Edmontosaurus turns 65,000,000Happy Birthday, Ed!
In honor of the milestone, the museum is giving Ed a presentcorrective surgery. When it was discovered in the 1940s, some of Ed's bones were missing. Scientists constructed bones to complete the original skeleton, but now the museum wants to bring Ed into the 21st century. The museum is crafting new bones in an effort to make Ed as close to real as possible. To help pay for the "medical" expenses, the museum has launched a "Buy-a-Bone" sponsorship program. Participants can sponsor one or more Edmontosaurus bones, ranging in price from $65 (rib) to $1,000 (full mount). Donors will be invited to an exclusive birthday party 6-9 p.m. Dec. 5. The refurbished exhibit will open to the public Dec. 6 with a Dinosaur Discovery Day. The exhibit also will include a remounted display of an Edmontosaurus skull, new labels, and an update to the large mural behind the exhibit, painted many years ago by well-known exhibit artist George Marchand.
