Dane Robert Reggia, College of Engineering student from Freeburg, Pa., is congratulated by Provost Teresa Sullivan for winning the Provost's Challenge. Reggia tied with Nari Park, LSA student from Ann Arbor (not pictured). At Student Convocation Sullivan announced the fun competition to encourage newcomers to learn as much about campus as possible during the long weekend before classes began. But students were not alone in finding the 70-question challenge intriguing. Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy Dean Rebecca Blank spent some four hours Labor Day biking around campus with her husband in search of answers. Blank said showing the questionnaire to her husband, Hanns Kuttner, who she says "has 10 answers for every question," was like "waving a red flag in front of a bull." Blank, who's been on campus since 1999, says she learned a great deal more about U-M that day. The provost's office says other faculty, staff and students also participated, although only first-year students were eligible to win. (Photo by Scott Galvin, U-M Photo Services) |
