Film and Video Guidelines

The University of Michigan is pleased to cooperate with filmmakers and video producers, especially for educational or documentary projects. The University’s cooperation is contingent upon evidence that the production will not disrupt day-to-day activities on our campus and our primary activities of teaching and research.

The University of Michigan reserves the right of review and denial for photographs, film, and video taken on campus for commercial purpose and will not allow filming of athletic or theater events without written permission from the University. The University Names & Images Review Committee is responsible for the approval and oversight of all commercial productions, including advertising, on all areas of campus. Please contact umlogos@umich.edu or call 734-763-5800.

Photography Guidelines

Photographs of campus scenes, landmarks, or athletic events may only be used for news and editorial purposes and may not be used commercially, without written permission from the University. NCAA regulations require that photographs of current student-athletes enrolled at the University may not be sold or used in association with commercial projects. Photographs of former University student-athletes may not be sold or used without their consent and written permission.
