SHPS — Flexible Spending Account Claims Processor

The University contracts with an external vendor, SHPS, to handle claims processing for the Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts.

SHPS, a Kentucky-based company that specializes in claims processing and servicing, has 16 years experience administering flexible spending account claims and has administered University of Michigan FSA claims since 2001.

SHPS provides a simplified claims submission process, and their dedicated services and expertise enable claims to be reimbursed faster and more frequently.

SHPS also offers online and telephone access to account balances and other claims transaction information.

In addition to the enhanced services offered by SHPS, the use of an external claims processor ensures a greater degree of privacy and confidentiality for participants concerned about transmission of personal health information.

Other advantages for you:

  • You can fax your claims forms and receipts to SHPS. SHPS maintains a dedicated fax number for the exclusive use of University of Michigan faculty and staff—1-877-270-3922.
  • Claims will be paid on a daily basis.
  • You can check your account balance on the SHPS web site http://www.myshps.net or call SHPS at 1-800-678-6684.
  • You can choose whether to be reimbursed by check or by direct deposit to your bank account.
