I'm applying to Law/Medical/Graduate School, and they require a referral from the Dean of Students. How can I obtain this from you?

Why can't I access my child's grades/records?
Once a student turns 18 or attends an institution of post secondary education the rights that parents or legal guardians had in elementary or secondary school are transferred to students under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Parents can be given access to their child's records if the student authorizes the permission in writing or in connection with the student's application for or receipt of financial aid.

What is a critical incident?
A critical incident consists of any student emergency outside of the academic setting. These include a death or serious illness in the family, auto accident, fire, mental or medical health issues and natural disasters. Frequently, the Dean of Students Office provides support and coordinates the University’s response to a student's or group's needs.
What is the difference between the Dean of Students and my Academic Dean?
The Dean of Students office can provide assistance with student matters outside of the academic setting such as illness, injury, family emergency, emotional assistance, etc. We can also notify academic units of student emergenices
An Academic Dean is more likely to be involved with academic policies standards and other issues involving the academic setting.

Is my contact with the Dean of Students Office confidential?
The Office of the Dean of Students treats student information and communications confidential according to law and consistent with our own practices. We, however, may be compelled to share certain information with others on a need to know basis. When this happens, it is our practice to inform the student first.

The Dean of Students office is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. If assistance is needed during the evening or on weekends, please contact any of the following departments:
