Russian 101 is designed to introduce you to the Russian language and the many facets of Russian culture as well as promote the development of your language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This course covers all the basic grammar of Russian through a combination of oral drilling, reading, written and computer exercises, conversation, videos, and music.

The pace will be fast and the work demanding, so plan on working at least two hours a day on your Russian.

Students must register for one of three sections which meet 4 days per week (MTThF), plus one grammar section, which meets 1 day (Wednesday).

Credits: 5

Prerequisites & Distribution: No credit granted to those who have completed or are enrolled in 103 or 111.

In this course, the sequel to Russian 101, students complete their survey of Russian grammar, expand their vocabulary, and learn to express themselves in Russian about topics of interest, including Russian history and culture. The class is supplemented by video viewings and computer work. Students are expected to complete two hours of oral and written homework each night.

Those interested in taking First Year Intensive Russian can enroll in the Summer Language Institute or in the Residential College Russian 103/193 course, which is generally taught in the fall.
