Michigan Relay Services

This free service allows a person with a hearing impairment to have phone contact with parties who do not have access to a TTY. Incoming calls from out of state are not handled. Out of state callers should use their relay services to call into Michigan.

Safety & Security

  • Call 911 from any University telephone for emergencies in progress. This number is activated for both Voice and TTY. If you are outside of the University or are calling form a cell phone, call (734) 763-1131.
  • University Housing residence halls have security coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. One officer is assigned to each building each night from 9:00 p.m. through 7:00 a.m. Between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., there are officers on patrol who will respond to any residence hall should dispatch center receive a request for assistance.
  • Call 3-1131 from any University telephone for non-emergency situations. If you are outside of the University, call (734) 763-1131.
  • NOTE: There are also blue topped emergency telephones all over campus, including near residence halls. Lifting the receiver automatically places a direct call to DPS. Help is immediately dispatched for emergency calls. Non-emergency calls for assistance are handled in the order they are received.

  • U-M Buses
    Select U-M buses and vans are fitted with hydraulics to be accessible to persons using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Check the U-M bus schedule to identify these fixed route buses.

  • Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) Buses
    All AATA buses are accessible for persons using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. All U-M staff, students and faculty can ride the AATA buses for free at any time when you show your M-Card identification. Check the AATA bus schedule to identify routes.
