Accommodations for Students
The University is obligated to make a reasonable accommodation to the known disability of an otherwise qualified student. In general, it is the responsibility of the student to make their disability status and subsequent need for an accommodation known to the appropriate University official. Students wishing to receive services must register with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD).

James Edward Knox Center Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS)
The University of Michigan Information and Technology Services (ITS), Shapiro Undergraduate Library and the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) jointly sponsor the James Edward Knox Center Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS). The site meets the needs of any U-M community members who have questions about modifications or alternatives to standard monitors, keyboards or mice, or who are seeking high-tech tools to help with reading and writing.

Council for Disability Concerns
The Council for Disability Concerns (CFDC) meets monthly to address disability issues affecting the University of Michigan community. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at noon and are open to all members of the University community. DyslexiaHelp is a robust curriculum and resource website designed to educate and inform dyslexics, parents, and professionals about dyslexia and other language disorders. With information on everything from diagnosis to treatment options, all accessible at no cost to site users, DyslexiaHelp is truly five-star.

Under normal circumstances, relay calls may be made any time of day, any day of the week, as often as you like, with no time limits or other restrictions. Incoming calls from out of state are not handled. Out of state callers should use their relay services to call into Michigan.

Safety & Security
- Call 911 from any University telephone for emergencies in progress. This number is activated for both Voice and TTY.
- Housing
University Housing residence halls have security coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. One officer is assigned to each building each night from 9:00 p.m. through 7:00 a.m. Between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., there are officers on patrol who will respond to any residence hall should dispatch center receive a request for assistance. - Call 3-1131 from any University telephone for non-emergency situations. If you are outside of the University, call (734) 763-1131.
- NOTE: There are also blue topped emergency telephones all over campus, including near residence halls. Lifting the receiver automatically places a direct call to DPS. Help is immediately dispatched for emergency calls. Non-emergency calls for assistance are handled in the order they are received.
Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)
This office assists students in negotiating disability-related barriers to the pursuit of their education, and strives to improve access to University programs, activities, and facilities for students with disabilities. They offer select students services that are not provided by other University offices or external organizations. Services are free of charge.

University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP)
University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP) began when the University Center for the Development of Language and Literacy first started its aphasia treatment program in 1947, offering speech and language therapy for veterans returning from World War II. For over 60 years, adults with language disorders resulting from stroke, brain injury, or brain tumor have come from around the globe to receive the highly individualized and intensive therapy offered at UMAP.
