A mighty wind

Using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, a team of astronomers that included a U-M doctoral student observed the fastest wind ever discovered around a stellar-mass black hole. The "super wind" clocked in at a record-breaking 20 million mph—about 3 percent of the speed of light, and nearly 10 times faster than any previously observed.
