Check out unique living and learning
The official celebration for North Quad, the first new U-M residence hall to open in more than 40 years, takes place from 3-6 p.m. on March 31. There will be refreshments, on-going tours, and a short program at 3:45 p.m.

Dance for Mother Earth
The 39th annual Powwow hosted by the U-M Native American Student Association took place earlier this month. It is one of the largest student–run powwows in the country with more than 1,000 singers, dancers, artists and craftspeople participating.

Colossal fossil
A 50-foot-long skeleton of the extinct whale Basilosaurus isis, which lived 37 million years ago, is suspended from the ceiling of the U-M Exhibit Museum of Natural History’s second floor gallery. It will reign over a whale evolution exhibit that opens April 9.

Match Day 2011
Last week the U-M Medical School took part in Match Day, a tradition where each fourth-year student gets randomly called to the front of the room to receive a sealed envelope containing a letter that tells them which residency program has selected them for training.

The U-M Matthaei Botanical Gardens Conservatory allows visitors to explore the world of plants from the tropics to the deserts in a pleasant environment every day throughout the year. Admission is free on Wednesdays from noon until 8 p.m.
