About Michigan Today

Jordanian Petroglyph, a watercolor inspired by ancient inscriptions and drawings on desert rocks, is among many images artist Eathel Mendenhall has painted while accompanying her husband, U-M Prof. Emeritus of Ancient and Biblical Studies George Mendenhall, on research trips. The script in the painting is modeled after writing systems studied by her husband.
