Michigan, Kyoto psychology researchers gather at U-M

DATES: Saturday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003

EVENT: "Self, Cognition and Emotion," Kyoto International Symposium, Kyoto-Michigan Collaboration in Psychology.

The psychology departments of the University of Michigan and Kyoto University in Japan are collaborating and planning student/faculty research exchanges. The firstwill be held here next month and a follow-up conference is planned in Japan.

A grant from Kyoto University has made it possible to bring more than 50 people, both faculty and graduate students, from Kyoto to Ann Arbor for the conference. The psychology department at Kyoto has been recognized as one of the best in Japan. The group is seeking to establish research links with foreign institutions.

Among the themes being explored at the conference: attention and cognition; emotion; development of self; comparative cognition; and socio-cultural psychology of globalization.
