Ford School of Public Policy panel to interpret mid-term election results

DATE: 3:30-5 p.m., Nov. 8, 2006.

EVENT: The University of Michigan's Gerald R. Ford School of Public of Policy will host a panel discussion about today's (Nov. 7) mid-term elections. "The 2006 Midterm Elections: Interpreting the Results" is free and open to the public.

Panelists include:

• U.S. Rep. John D. Dingell, (D-Dearborn), has served the longest tenure in the 435-member body. In December, he will mark his 51st year as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

• Rusty Hills is a lecturer in public policy at the Ford School. He is currently the communications director for State of Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox. Hills has spent the better part of two decades in public service and politics. He was twice elected unanimously to serve as chair of the Michigan Republican Party.

• Michael Traugott is a U-M professor of communications studies and political science. He is a specialist in the study of mass media and American politics, including the ways that candidates use media in their campaigns and the ways that candidates are covered by the media.

• The event moderator is Elisabeth Gerber, a professor of public policy and the founder and past director of the Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy at the Ford School. Her current research focuses on intergovernmental cooperation, land use and economic development policy, local fiscal capacity, and local political accountability.
