In the fall of 2007, President Mary Sue Coleman announced plans to hire 100 junior faculty committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research.

This five-year, $30 million initiative is designed to build upon U-M’s strengths in scholarship that cuts across academic disciplines, while also improving connections between students and faculty.

A faculty committee reviews proposals for funding, along with Provost Teresa Sullivan and President Coleman. To date, 49 new faculty positions have been created and funded in 12 areas of teaching and research. They are:
