| A Symposium at the University of Michigan, Ann ArborMarch 8, 20031:005:00 p.m. Hale Auditorium, Assembly Hall Building Business School, 701 Tappan Ave. Free and open to the public Once the grand imperial capital of Russia, St. Petersburg is in the midst of a bold new plan to revitalize the citys historic center. This symposium explores the citys prospects for projecting its classical architectural legacy and contemporary cultural aspirations as it undertakes an expansion and regeneration of its cultural infrastructure. Mariinsky Theatre director Valery Gergiev, architect Eric Owen Moss, and other distinguished symposium participants will explore the juxtaposition of St. Petersburgs past and present in the struggle to maintain a singular identity and character while adjusting to the pressures of a rapidly changing world.
