First lady Barbara Bush and President Bush join U-M President James J. Duderstadt at commencement.
First lady Barbara Bush stood before 78,000 people at Michigan Stadium to receive an honorary degree in 1991.
She joined President Bush in receiving honorary doctor of laws degrees in the May 5 appearance at the University She did not make any formal remarks.
“Barbara and I are very grateful for this high honor,” the president said. “Before this, there wasn’t one lawyer in the family, and now we have two.“
