This home was built in 1838 by John W. Maynard. Maynard had come to Ann Arbor when he was a child during the city's founding in 1824. He became a successful grocer and had a prosperous store on Ann Street. In A Michigan Argus, Maynard's home was described as having, "the style of architecture which is an ornament to our village and evinces the taste, judgment and liberality of their owners." The Maynard family resided in this home for over half of a century. Russell T. Dobson, publisher of the Ann Arbor Times, purchased the home in 1908. Dobson died of pneumonia in 1938. The home was used for many beneficial causes during the second half of the 20th century. It was used as a student center for the Christian Reformed Church, as the location of St. Andrew's outreach program, and most recently for a clubhouse for those suffering from mental illness of Trailblazers, Inc.
