Jonathan Alger is Counsel for the national office of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) in Washington, DC, where he advises college and university faculty members, administrators, and others with regard to higher education legal issues. He is the staff liaison for AAUP's Committee L on the Historically Black Institutions and the Status of Minorities in the Profession. He previously served as a senior attorney-advisor at the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, where he worked on the development and implementation of policies regarding discrimination and affirmative action in higher education. He began his legal career as an associate in a law firm where he specialized in labor and employment law. Mr. Alger has written and spoken extensively on affirmative action and discrimination issues. He is a graduate of Swarthmore College and Harvard Law School.
