The meeting was called to order by D. Burns at 12:20 pm.

Minutes. No minutes were available from the November 9, 2011 meeting

Treasurer's Report. No report

Announcements. C. Smith reported that the 2011Davis, Markert, Nickerson Lecture on Academic and Intellectual Freedom held on October 13th is now available on-line at (www.umich.edu/~aflf/).

C. Smith also reported on a contact by a reporter at the Michigan daily regarding the meaning of tenure at the University, specifically in relation to alternative long-term contracts being considered at other colleges and universities.

D. Burns recapped the National AAUP's Media Relations Director's email regarding the placement of the Chapter's op-ed piece on employee benefits in the Michigan Daily, as well as their homepage. Their link to the article—"Give employee benefits fairly"-- is (http://www.aaup.org/AAUP)

Active Cases. No active cases were identified for discussion.

C. Smith reported on a contact by an Assistant Professor at UM-Flint regarding irregular tenure procedures and practices. He referred the inquirer to the UM Standard Practice Guide for further information.

D. Burns noted that the Graduate Employee's Organization (GEO) has asked the Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC) to reconsider their September decision dismissing the Graduate Student Research Assistant (GRSA) group's petition to unionize. MERC recently voted to hold a hearing and has referred the issue to an administrative court. No date has been set for a hearing

Faculty Governance. No items were presented.

State/National AAUP News. Western Michigan University appealed to the National AAUP or to re-consider their policy against joint affiliations and membership with other organizations. The appeal was denied by the National organization.

Old Business. None.

New Business. Guest M. Bailey suggested that the Chapter consider holding a statewide summit during 2012 on a current topic of interest to other chapters in conjunction with other upcoming planned events. D. Burns led a subsequent discussion regarding potential topics and collaborations.

Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned by D. Burns at 1:30 pm.
