IN THIS ISSUE
Through its Annual Newsletter the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) brings to faculty, staff, and students items related to preserving and promoting the well-being of the professoriate, enhancing the quality of instruction, and serving the educational interests of the public. This past year UM Provost Courant appointed a Committee on Health Insurance Premium Design (CHIPD) "to examine multiple dimensions of the formula for determining what the University and its community pay for health coverage." A discussion of the CHIPD Committee Report and its implementation are included in this newsletter. Governor Jennifer Granholm has continued and added to the cuts in the state support of higher education that she initiated when she became Michigan's Governor. Michigan State Senator Liz Brater will discuss the state support of higher education at this year's annual meeting. Various aspects of these and other issues are addressed in this year's newsletter.
