Elected President Diane Thompson could not fulfill the duties because of personal reasons.
As a result we have an acting president, Andrace Laynette DeYampert, until a new election is held to elect a new president

The Mission of ABPAFS:

The Association of Black Professionals and Administrators, Faculty and Staff at the University of Michigan is an organization dedicated to the purpose of creating a work environment which supports the development and advancement of the African American employees at the University of Michigan. The organization will serve as resource conduit which will enable the African American community to obtain support consistent with their present and future career aspirations.  Any University of Michigan employee without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or disability can be a member of this organization if they agree with the provisions of the By-Laws

 

ACTING
PRESIDENT

Andrace

Andrace Laynette DeYampert

Andrace is a researcher in both chemoprevention and Inflammatory Bowel Disease and has been working at U-M for 2 years. She's the mother of a beautiful daughter, Ahni. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, reading, broadway plays, and spending time with family and friends. She also volunteers as a cheerleading coach, signing for the Deaf Ministry, and sits on the Health Advisory Board for Washtenaw County.

DUTIES

Responsible for presiding at meetings of the Association and chairing the Executive Committee; appointing Chairs of all committees, either standing or ad hoc, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee; exercising general executive authority on behalf of the Association between meetings of the membership and of the Executive Committee subject to the approval of the Association membership.

DUTIES

Responsible for performing all the duties of the President in her or his absence or disability.

TREASURER

Marlanna Landeros

Marlanna is from Detroit, MI (born and raised), went to U-M undergrad, employee at the Department of Public Safety as a student for 4 years and full time employee for 7 years. She's in charge of coordinating the special events for the department of public safety, the campus police.

DUTIES

Responsible for receiving all monies of the Association and to deposit these monies in an appropriate bank or other trustworthy financial institution and to maintain an accurate record of the financial conditions of the Association at all times; act as chief financial officer of the Association and to chair the Finance Committee; report all receipts and expenditures at the regular monthly meetings of the Association; and serving as ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee.

SECRETARY

Paula Williams

Paula is a Police Officer with the Department of Public Safety, she went to UM undergrad, and has been employeed with DPS for 10 years.

DUTIES

Responsible for giving due notice of all meetings to the Association and to the Executive Committee; keeping an accurate record of all proceedings of the Association and the Executive Committee; keeping a record of all Association members; and serves as ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee.

AUDIT COMMITTEE

Shante L. Galloway--Chair

Committee members--Andrace DeYampert, Paul Bristol, Melvin Williams, Paula R. Williams

COMMITTEE DUTIES

Responsible for structuring an annual review process for budget oversight of each committee. This committee will meet once a fiscal year.

BY-LAWS COMMITTEE

Denise Moore
CHAIR

Since February 2006, Denise has been the department manager in the College of Engineering's Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences (AOSS) and serves on the Diversity Committee of U-M's Voices of the Staff. She holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration as well as a double Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Business Administration. She resides in metro Detroit, where she grew up, with her one teenage daughter. Denise is also active in her home community where she volunteers and mentors in various capacities.

COMMITTEE DUTIES

Responsible for keeping By-laws current and annual review. This committee will review the current By-law and revise, afterwards will meet annually to up-date By-laws.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Belinda Anderson-Clegg--Chair

COMMITTEE DUTIES

Responsible for press releases on matters of importance to ABPAFS and Web content drafts.

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Cherilyn Davis
CHAIR

Cherilyn has been employed at U-M since 2003. She is the Graduate Program and Department Chair Secretary in the College of Engineering's Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences Department. Before coming to U-M, she was the secretary to the EMU Black Faculty and Staff Association and the Women’s Commission.

Responsible for identifying and securing financial support for ABPAFS initiatives.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Tesenga Sha' Duncan-Smith
CHAIR

T'Sha is the Coordinator of Diversity Initiatives and Academic Support and the Program Coordinator of the Health Management & Policy Summer Enrichment Program in the School of Public Health.

COMMITTEE DUTIES

Responsible for periodic list serve up-dates, outreach, initiatives, annual membership drive and collection of dues, if applicable

NETWORKING/ MENTORING COMMITTEE

Sonja Brandon-Harris
CHAIR

Sonja is the Facilities and Administrative Services Manager in the Department of Radiation Oncology.

COMMITTEE DUTIES

Responsible for developing a calendar of events to promote the social, educational and career aspirations of the membership.

RESOURCE COMMITTEE

COMMITTEE DUTIES

Responsible for identifying community, educational and career resources important to the ABPAFS membership.

TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

Chuck Ransom
CHAIR

Phyllis Taylor

Chuck is the Multicultural Studies Libra ian in the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library.

Phyllis is a Senior Program Coordinator for the Alumni Student Recruitment Program at the Alumni Association.

COMMITTEE DUTIES

Responsible for web content, c-tools site and development of blogs.
