For many years minorities in the United States had no voice and even worse they had no rights. Had it not been for the  peaceful activist rallies and protest from the likes of, Dr. Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, Rosa Parks, the Young Lords, and many others, minorities all across the United States would have never been able to overcome the social hardships placed in front of these groups by the government. These people have paved a way and have made many efficient strides in the right direction to end the hardships and disadvantages placed in front of any individual. In the Latino community, it is now up to all of us, the youth, students and professionals, to continue making great strides and to eliminate all the hardships placed in front of us and community!

Author Marco A. Davis said in one of his writing's," The Latino population is not well understood in the United States, partly because of its small number of nationally recognized leaders. For these and other reasons, leadership is a component for the population"[3] Mr. Davis realizes that the Latino community all across the U.S. is in need of leaders to guide the future growth of our communities. We now, more than ever need more individuals to step and take action. There are many issues that are affecting our families and friends which are being unchallenged.

The Immigration rallies and marches that took place in the years 2005 and 2006 was a great example of how activism works in a peaceful and powerful way. Many companies suffered million dollar losses, which lead to more pressure being placed on politicians, which got the Latino community's voice heard. Actions like these can help us change the way our country is run and can change the hardships placed on the Latino communities.  Especially with the recent growth of the community, Latinos now more than ever have an opportunity to make change.

As many of us already know, the Latino community is the fastest growing population group in the United States. Currently the Latino population has a tremendous economic strength, with a collective buying power that is estimated at being $200 billion.[3] And with the Latino population continuing to grow, with an already estimated twenty-eight million people, there will be more buying power which will turn into more pressure for the government to help out the Latino communities.[3] Aside from the fact that this growth provides the Latino community with more power, it also provides the community with more of a liability. The more Latinos that are in the United States, the more important it is for the community to grow in more ways than just population numbers. This is a prime time to go out and make a change, for us, our parents, and more importantly our FUTURE!
