Sports in Latin America and U.S. Latinos

Our website focuses on Latinos in the historical, present, and future situations of sports. Two of our members chose to focus on soccer and baseball, while a third sums up the rest of the major sports. Identity and bigotry are the two most prevalent issues facing Latino athletes today. Many of these themes are rooted in the past, and may not be corrected for the future.

For the purposes of this site, we define Latinos as any person with Latin American descent. It is usually used when the individual is born or moves to the United States . Latins are traditionally defined as anyone who speaks a Latin language, but since most of our research used Latin interchangeably with Latino, we are too. Hispanic is usually defined as a native or descendent of a native of a Spanish-speaking country. It is important to note that Latino and Hispanic are ethnicities, in fact labels created by the American government to classify people from certain regions. However, they are a mix of races, including White, Black, Indian, and more. Since most Latinos actually differentiate each other by country, it is more of a cultural product than a bloodline.
